Annual Dinner 2010 Report

The Perak Bar Annual Dinner was held on 27th November, 2010 at Le View Syuen Hotel.  This year the social sub committee came up with a theme "Retro Chic".  The night was a resounding success with members who came dressed conforming to the theme.  We had the male population who came dressed, from the legendary Sarip Dol to Starsky and Hutch.  Whilst the female came in scales, neon bright colours and beehives!  I must say, even our Mr Chairman's hat that night was pretty cool in keeping with the retro vibe.

Our emcees for the night were the bewitching Ms Amber Tan (with neon pink tights) and the dashing En. Ahmad Yani (with his retro batik prints).

The night was also enlivened by performance from Aris Ariwatan and the Permata Band.  Audiences were tickled pink when YB Thomas Su and the gang were called on stage.  We also had our very own talented members now famously known as "Kugiran Rambut Panjang (Belah Tepi)" who made their debut that night. I was informed that they are now invited to perform at other state bar functions.

The luckiest person that night is En. Norazali Nordin aka Azali Arumugam (Alleycat) who won the 40 inch LCD and the 2D1N stay in Penang.

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all who attended.  Special thanks to my sub committee members and chambering pupils for sacrificing their time, money and energy in ensuring that the annual dinner was a success.

PERAK BAR - MBI FAMILY DAY 2010 REPORT

On 22nd May 2010 was the "Pestaria dan Hari Terbuka anjuran Jawatakuasa Peguam Perak bersama Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh" held at Polo Ground. Despite, the morning heavy downpour the turnout was great. There were  about 14 food stalls; 5 of which were manned by members of the bar. The drink and ice cream stalls were exclusively manned by the social sub committee members.  There were 6 corporate bodies which comprises of banks, insurance companies, telecommunication and publication company who had  joined us. We were also very privileged as the Insolvency Dept and Rakan Cop had set up their booths there.

We also have colouring contest for the children which were also open to public and we were very proud to discover talents from our very own members' children.

This event was officiated by our Mayor Dato' Hj Roshidi Bin Hj Hashim. In his speech he has expressed his intentions to make this Open Day a yearly event and has agreed to provide a yearly fund of RM5000 in addition to the equipment and services provided to the Perak Bar Committee for such event.

The band and performances were courtesy of Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh but the highlight was the performance of our very own Bhangra King.

The grand finale was the tug-of-war between the members of the bar and Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh. Although, victory was in the hands of Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh, our members put up a very tough fight (considering the members who participated were half the sizes of their opponents!).

I would like to personally thank everyone who has supported and contributed their time, energy and money to make this event a success. Especially to my social sub committee members for their selfless effort in selling the coupons and organizing the booths; to the main committee members whom have also been allotted a certain number of coupons to sell; to all members who attended especially the senior members who stayed on thru rain and shine; to the photographers for those wonderful shots; the junior members and pupils who helped manned the stalls and last but not least to my boss and jr boss for allowing me time outs from work.

Perak Bar and Ipoh City Council Food Fair and Open Day 2010

To all Perak Bar Members,

The Perak Bar Social Sub-Committee will be organizing the "Perak Bar and Ipoh City Council Open Day and Food Fair 2010" which will be held on 22nd May, 2010 (Saturday) at Polo Ground (Padang Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah) from 8:00am to 2:00pm.

All those interested to set up food or produce stalls are required to submit immediately their applications due to the limited number of stall spaces.  Kindly be informed that the Social Sub-Committee shall not be obliged to accept all applications.  The decision of the Sub-Committee in respect of same shall be final.

Participation is strictly on a first come first served basis.

Nizam at 012-5171541 if you have any queries.  The application forms may be obtained from either the Bar Room (High Court) or the Perak Bar Secretariat (05-2415457).  All application forms shall be returned to the Perak Bar Secretariat on / before 20th April, 2010.

REPORT OF THE SOCIAL SUB-COMMITTEE

This has been a rather quiet year for the social sub-committee.

Initially there were plans to organize at least 3 events over the course of this committee. However only one was successfully held, that is, the Annual Dinner with the others abandoned for want of support and response from the members.

This year the Annual Dinner was held at Impiana Casurina Hotel on 20.11.2009 with Y.A. Dato’ Zainal Adzam bin Abd. Ghani D.P.M.P., D.P.M.K., S.M.J., K.M.N. as our guest of honour. Also among the invited guests who attended our dinner were 3 of the Judicial Commissioners of the High Court Y.A. Tuan Tarmizi bin Abd Rahman, Y.A. Tuan Ridzuan bin Ibrahim and Y.A. Tuan Teoh Say Eng.

With a limited budget, members who attended the dinner were treated to a live band performance by “The Mystery Band” and lucky draws. All in all the dinner was a great success and the sub-committee members are grateful and thankful to all members who have contributed to this success in attending the dinner.

Last but not the least, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those members who have assisted me in organizing the Annual Dinner in particular Miss Janet Wong, Mr. Gavin Tang and Mr. Kenny Lai without whom the Annual Dinner would not have been a success.

PERAK BAR ANNUAL DINNER 2009

Please be informed that the Perak Bar Annual Dinner 2009 is scheduled to be held on the 20th of November, 2009 at 7pm-11pm at the Crystal Ballroom, Impiana Casuarina Hotel.

This was a busy year for the Social sub committee. There were many activities planned and many ideas were thrown into the hat for consideration. The social sub committee of 2008/2009 started off the year with the organizing of a visit to Sunway Tambun Lost World for the families of our members. The event was a great success and the families of those who went surely enjoyed themselves.

This was followed by the our Annual Dinner which had our first ever Awards night! The night was a resounding success; albeit slightly marred by the subdued performance from our guest entertainer Mr. Mano Maniam. The night was also enlivened by the performance from the Gabungan Orang Asli complete with their traditional costumes and head gear which was a first for many of the members that night.

The committee has initially penciled in a treasure hunt and white water rafting for the year but as time did not permit us to do so, the committee had decided to postpone it to the next year.

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere and heartfelt gratitude to my committee members for sacrificing their time and effort in ensuring that any and all activities organized were a success. I would also like to stress that the efforts of the sub committee should be applauded as organizing activities for the rest of the member s of the Perak Bar is NOT as easy as it looks. It is the fervent wish that the members of the Perak Bar take part in the activities organized so as to ensure that the sacrifices of your fellow members of the Bar are not wasted.

The Committee would also like to extend their gratitude to Mr. Gookolaram of the Legal Aid Bureau for helping us organize the Orang Asli performers for the Annual Dinner.

Perak Bar Family Day Trip to Sunway Lost World Ipoh

The day started off with many an obstacle. There was a big traffic jam with road closures due to the discovery of a World War 2 bomb on the road to Sunway Ipoh. There was also a couple of last minute pull outs from a couple of participants but the few that ploughed on despite the adversities faced found the trip well worth their time and effort as well as money well spent!

The children looked like they enjoyed themselves tremendously riding the pirate ship, the spinning wheel as well as the various slides and generally playing in the water and the sand building sandcastles and the like.

There was also a surprise for the single men of the Perak Bar who turned up as unbeknownst to us, Miss Malaysia Model of the World had a function there and all the final contestants were there parading in their bikinis and giving interviews. But let’s not get carried away with this as the day was for the Perak Bar member’s children.

The purpose of the day was to allow the Perak Bar members to spend time doing a bar activity with their children and I believe that it was a resounding success!

Let’s hope that this would be a precursor to more participation of the Perak Bar members. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Social Sub Committee members who have worked hard to ensure that this activity was a success.

FAMILY DAY TRIP TO SUNWAY LOST WORLD IPOH

Dear Members,

The Social sub-committee is happy to bring to you the 1st in the long line of activities planned for this year. The details of the family day trip to Sunway Lost World lpoh are as follows:-

Date : 21st June 2008
Time : 10.00 am
1) Adult - RM20.00 per person;
2) Children (aged 12 and below) - RM16.00 per person;
(these are only for the entrance fees excluding food)

The entrance fee is inclusive of all available rides which are
unlimited excluding the rental of tubes.

Kindly register your names with Prema at the Perak Bar Secretariat and indicate the number and type (adult or children) of tickets required and make payment for the same on or before the l6 June 2008. Please be informed that this is the cut off date and we would not be able to get the same reduced rates should you register after this date.

Take note as well that the Perak Bar will not bear any responsibility for any injuries or death that may (however unlikely) occur there.
