Some 5,000 villagers in the remote areas along Sungei Perak, Orang Asli villages, estates and other rural areas in Sungei Siput will now have easy access to legal aid when Perak Legal Aid Centre begins its Mobile Clinic services in March 2012. The LAC Clinic, a collaboration between various NGOs and ketua kampungs, provides basic legal advise and law awareness services to areas with no or limited access to these facilities.
The clinic was launched on 18.02.12 in Taman Heawood at a simple ceremony attended by over 40 members of NGO’s, ketua kampungs, media personnels, pupils and lawyers. The mobile team will provide the following services:
• legal advise & promote law awareness;
• conduct seminars & forums;
• handle cases in courts;
• conduct booths;
The idea of setting this mobile clinic came about following requests from several NGOs and village heads serving the hard-core poor communities in the rural areas and surounding estates in Sungei Siput. The clinic will operate at different locations set and arranged by the local village heads and NGOs. The Mobile clinic will be manned by volunteers and pupils and shall initially operate on a monthly basis, subject to public demand.
