When I first started this blog it was to experiment if the members of Perak Bar were willing to embrace technology and use this portal to impart information and updates on the activities of the Perak Bar. I believe that it has been a success. In line with that, the Perak Bar had already set up the Perak Bar Website to run concurrently with this blog with the view that we would be switching over to it full time.

We believe that the time is now. So please change your bookmarks to our Perak Bar Website in order to receive the latest updates and information of Perak Bar.

REPORT OF THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SUB-COMMITTEE

The Perak Bar Blog has now been running for more than a year. We were pleasantly surprised when YA Dato Wan Afrah wholeheartedly supported our request for the weekly causelist. Ever since then, we have been receiving the causelist weekly and this has been of great assistance to all members of the Perak Bar. We hope to continue having support from the Bench with regards to the causelist. It has however been rather difficult sourcing for articles from our members. However, I must record my thanks to the regular contributors to the blog, namely Miss Navit Kaur, Mr S.Y. Lee and Miss Julia Tang who took time out of their busy schedules to contribute to the blog. It must be noted that the response of the members of the Perak Bar to the articles written were rather underwhelming and our hopes that the blog would provide a sounding board for our members has not taken off.

Further to the circular dated 05.03.2008 (PBC/Circular/18/3/08) concerning the above matter we are pleased to inform you that we have extended the deadline for you to furnish your e-mail address to the Perak Bar to the 31^st of May 2009. If you or your firm do/does not have an e-mail account, we would encourage members to create and/ or open the same soonest possible and before the said deadline.

As we wish to promote an efficient and cost effective method of circulating information please note that after the said deadline of 31^st of May 2009 all correspondence i.e. circulars, updates and information relating to the Perak Bar will be circulated by e-mail only (should you choose to obtain your future correspondence i.e. circulars and updates by e-mail) and may also be viewed on the Perak Bar blog (http://www.perakbar.blogspot.com). This is to reduce the increasing cost of stationary and other corresponding material.

After what seemed like an eternity. We were pleased to announce to the Perak Bar that the Perak Bar Blog was up and running to deliver announcements, news, circulars, articles and updates on the law to our members. We are very grateful to all those who helped contribute to the blog in one way or another either by writing an article, posting their comments, making suggestions and also taking pictures so that they could be uploaded on the blog. As we have stated, the blog is meant to be an interim measure whilst we look into the feasibility and cost of running our own website. Meanwhile, we need all members of the Perak Bar to support the blog by either writing or contributing articles to us, contacting Gavin the IT Chair to offer your assistance in becoming one of our web reporters and also simply by bookmarking the blog on your browser and signing up for our updates so that all new postings on the blog can be sent via e-mail to you. For those who have not heard of the blog (maybe you were lost in the jungles of Borneo), please visit the blog at http://perakbar.blogspot.com/

Plans are already underfoot to send all circulars and notices to Perak Bar members electronically so as to reduce the usage of paper and to minimize costs. Therefore, all members are urged to quickly register your e-mail address with the Secretariat so that you do not miss out on any circulars or notices in the future. Our drive for paperless communications will begin in 2009 at a date which will be communicated to everyone.

LEGAL WORKBENCH AT DUTA COURT COMPLEX

Legal WorkBench, the Comprehensive Online Legal Resource for Malaysian Practitioners is Now Available, Free of Charge, at the Bar Room of Duta Court Complex

The KL Bar, in collaboration with Crimsonlogic Sdn Bhd, is pleased to offer free access to Legal Workbench, the premier online legal research service for practitioners of Malaysian law at the Duta Court Complex.
