TALK ON S.51 and S.51A OF THE CRIMINAL PROCEDURE CODE

AT THE PERAK BAR SECRETARIAT

A talk by Associate Professor Talat Mahmod of University Malaya will be held on 24.9.2010 at the Perak Bar Secretariat at 3.00 p.m.

This talk will broadly concern the following topics:-

(i)                              The application of S. 51 & 51A of the Criminal Procedure Code ; and

(ii)                            The recently introduced “new” ground of appeal on the incompetence of counsel as a ground to set aside a Criminal Conviction.

These topics would naturally revolve around the recent Federal Court decisions in PP v Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim [2010] 4 CLJ 331 and Shamim Reza Abdul Samad v PP [2009]6 CLJ 93.

As with the talk held on 26.5. 2010, this topic is selected on the primary basis of their relevance to practitioners especially our members litigating Criminal matters.
